Mulch & Planting

Image 3 of 10

Another wonderful example of replacing grass with pollinator friendly plants. Bringing in flowering shrubs and perennials is a great way to increase biodiversity. Xeriscaping means more than just replacing grass with a sea of mulch or rock. Following the principles of xeriscaping usually results in bringing in more native plants, carefully picking plants for certain areas based on their water needs.

You don’t have to use only drought tolerant plants, though many of them will be, you can have areas of lush plantings that do require more water. You just have to be thoughtful about how many high water use plants you use and where you put them. Water conscious landscaping also doesn’t necessarily mean eliminating grass altogether. Again, it is fine to keep some as long as it is an appropriate amount.

Are you ready to swap your grass for an assortment of plants that will flower through the season?
